Email publication rules
Are attorney email addresses public?
Some are, depending on the state. The Illinois ARDC publishes each lawyer's registered email. California keeps a licensee's email nonpublic without consent under California Rule of Court 9.9(a)(2). Florida Bar Rule 1-3.3(a) requires every member to designate a business email.
These rules explain why email coverage sits at 65% while mailing addresses and phone numbers reach 100%.
Phone numbers
Attorney phone number list
The attorney phone number list comes from the same records: a direct phone number on 100% of records, next to the firm name and practice area. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act requires prior express consent for autodialed or prerecorded calls and texts to mobile numbers.
Bar identifiers
Bar numbers and registration IDs by state
Most states issue a bar identification number, but the label and format change by state. New York issues a 7-digit Registration Number instead of a bar number, and the Illinois ARDC and State Bar of Georgia directories show no number at all.

Each record carries the bar number and admission state where the state issues one.
Geography
Selecting lawyers by state, city and ZIP code
Lists are selected by state, city or ZIP code and combined with practice area, role and firm size. The American Bar Association counted 1.37 million licensed US lawyers in 2025, led by New York (190,015), California (181,048) and Texas (99,867).
