Public defender email list
Defense counsel employed by government offices form their own role segment, listed next to the prosecutors on the other side of the courtroom.
The criminal lawyers email list covers defense attorneys who handle felony, misdemeanor and federal charges in all 50 states, and you order it by state, city, ZIP code, role and firm size. Every defense contact carries the firm name, mailing address, direct phone and practice area; 65% carry a verified email. ZeroBounce and NeverBounce test each address, and our team checks attorney details on state bar websites. Defense orders start at 1,000 records, after a free sample and a quote.
Segments
Criminal defense lawyers divide by court, by who pays them and by the charges they defend. State-court practitioners defend felony and misdemeanor charges under state criminal codes, federal practitioners defend charges in US district courts, and private firms take retained clients as well as court appointments.
The North Carolina State Bar defines its criminal law specialty as the defense or prosecution of people charged with criminal offenses in state or federal courts. It names 3 subspecialties: state criminal law, juvenile delinquency law and federal criminal law.
Role selection turns those practice types into separate audiences. An email list of criminal defense attorneys can hold only solo practitioners who own their offices, only partners at defense firms, or only public defenders in government offices.
Drunk-driving defense is a narrower practice inside criminal defense, and it gets its own DUI and DWI defense attorney email list.
Direct mail
Yes. Every criminal defense attorney contact includes a full postal address with street, city, state and ZIP code, next to the firm name and direct phone number. Letters, printed catalogs and seminar invitations go out from the same contacts as email campaigns.
Postal mail fills the gap that email leaves. A verified email sits on 65% of criminal defense contacts, while the mailing address and direct phone sit on all of them, so a letter reaches the 35% of defense attorneys without a verified inbox in the file.
Field coverage
Firm name, full mailing address, direct phone number, practice area and Google Business Profile appear on 100% of criminal defense contacts. Among defense contacts, Google ratings and reviews reach 97%, websites 86%, verified emails 65%, Facebook pages 52% and Instagram handles 33%.
| Field | Coverage bar | Share of records |
|---|---|---|
| Firm name | 100% | |
| Full mailing address | 100% | |
| Direct phone number | 100% | |
| Practice area | 100% | |
| Google Business Profile | 100% | |
| Google rating and reviews | 97% | |
| Website | 86% | |
| Verified email | 65% | |
| Facebook page | 52% | |
| Instagram handle | 33% |
Also in every file: bar number, bar admission state, job title, LinkedIn profile, firm size and an email status column that flags catch-all addresses.
Criminal defense contacts also carry a job title, LinkedIn profile, firm size and a bar number field, and the label behind that number changes from state to state, as the guide to bar numbers in the attorney email database shows.
Credential
A board certified criminal defense attorney has passed a specialty exam, peer review and trial-experience checks run by a certifying body such as the National Board of Trial Advocacy or a state bar board. Certification is voluntary and expires: NBTA certificates last 5 years.
The National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA) describes itself as a national board certifying organization accredited by the American Bar Association. Its standards for Criminal Trial Law certification, revised in May 2024, set the experience, education and peer-review minimums listed below.
The North Carolina State Bar runs a parallel state program for state criminal law, juvenile delinquency law and federal criminal law. Its state criminal law standard asks for an average of 500 practice hours a year over the 5 years before applying, 40 hours of criminal law CLE in the prior 3 years and a written exam. NBTA accepts the criminal trial written exams of Florida, New Jersey and Texas as equivalents of its own exam, and it tells Florida Bar members to hold the Florida Bar's criminal trial certification before applying.
Contact selection works on different attributes. Criminal defense contacts carry a bar number and the bar admission state, and selections run by practice area, state, city, ZIP code, role and firm size.
NBTA runs Criminal Trial Law and Civil Trial Law certification side by side, and litigators on the civil docket have their own email list of trial lawyers.

The Administrative Office of the US Courts breaks new federal defendants down by offense. Immigration offenses, led by improper reentry with 29,564 defendants, outnumber the drug, firearms and fraud defendants combined.

Who pays
Federal defenders receive about 60% of Criminal Justice Act appointments, and private panel attorneys take the other 40%, according to the US Courts. Panel attorneys earn $177 an hour in non-capital cases for work performed on or after January 1, 2026.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics measured how often felony defendants had publicly financed counsel in a report released November 29, 2000. Publicly financed counsel, meaning public defenders, attorneys assigned from lists and groups under contract, represented about 66% of federal felony defendants in 1998 and 82% of felony defendants in the 75 most populous counties in 1996.
Public funding does not remove private firms from the market. The US Courts describe Criminal Justice Act panel attorneys as private attorneys who accept CJA assignments and use court funds to hire investigators, interpreters and other necessary experts, and approximately 13,000 of them take assignments each year. The same office counts 83 federal defender organizations serving 92 of the 94 federal judicial districts.
